West Virginia Immunization Network Encourages Vaccination Ahead of the Holidays

As we get ready to celebrate the holidays with our family and friends, it is important that we take steps to keep ourselves and each other safe. The holidays give us a special opportunity for spending time and making memories with our loved ones. The West Virginia Immunization Network encourages West Virginians to get their annual flu shot and a COVID-19 vaccine, if due, to help keep your holidays happy and healthy.

It takes about two weeks to build protection from vaccination, so now is a great time to get vaccinated, in order to build immunity before the holidays. The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) recommends COVID-19 vaccines and annual flu shots for everyone 6 months and older.

To find out if you or a loved one is due for a COVID-19 vaccine, check out the COVID-19 Vaccination Due Date Calculator. Flu shots and COVID-19 vaccines are available at many health care providers’ offices, community health centers, local health departments, pharmacies, schools and college health centers.  For help finding a vaccine near you, visit www.vaccines.gov

For more information about vaccination, talk to your health care provider or visit: www.vaccinate.wv.gov or www.cdc.gov/flu.
