West Virginia Immunization Network

WIN History

​For more than a decade, The West Virginia Immunization Network (WIN) has worked with the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services’ Division of Immunization Services to improve the health of all West Virginians by working cooperatively to prevent disease through increased immunization rates across the lifespan.

1996

West Virginia Immunization Network (WIN) formed through a series of key stakeholder meetings conducted to discuss formation of statewide immunization coalition.

1998

Formal launch of coalition at West Virginia State Capitol with immunization of Secretary of State Ken Hechler during first of six “Silver Haired Legislature” immunization events.

 

 

 

 

 

1999

Mascot birthday party media event conducted to raise awareness of National Infant Immunization Week.

Contract with Kanawha Valley Senior Services as fiscal agent initiated.

1999 – 2004

Flu shots administered and promoted at Silver-Haired Legislature event in Charleston.

1999 – 2003

Partnership with West Virginia Medical Institute (WVMI) to air flu public service announcements through West Virginia Broadcaster’s Association (WVBA).

2000

“Every Child By Two” co-founder Betty Bumpers visits WIN and immunization delivery sites to raise awareness of immunization importance and to discuss West Virginia’s progress with immunizations and the status of their immunization registry system.

2003

Silver Haired Legislature event information presentation delivered at National Immunization Coalition Conference in Scottsdale, AZ.

WIN begins contracting with the Center for Rural Health Development as fiscal agent.

2004

“Flu Link” telephone number and Web site created to promote availability of flu shots in three southern WV counties.

2005

“Flu Link” and Silver Haired Legislature presentation delivered at National Immunization Conference in Washington, DC

Ceremony hosted to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first polio vaccine

Strategic planning session with Bakalian Consulting Group conducted to streamline organizational structure.

2006

Take Your Best Shot: Adolescent Immunization Project launched in seven counties.

Partnership with American Lung Association to populate “Flu Clinic Locator” Web site during flu season.

2007

Take Your Best Shot: Adolescent Immunization Project reaches 16 counties.

2008

Take Your Best Shot: Adolescent Immunization Project expanded to include a total of 24 counties.

2009

Take Your Best Shot: Adolescent Immunization Project reaches 33 counties.

2010

Take Your Best Shot: Adolescent Immunization Project expanded to include a total of 38 counties.

2011

WV Adult Immunization Project Launched in 5 Counties.

2012

WV Adult Immunization Project reaches 19 Counties.

2013

WV Adult Immunization Project expanded into a total of 24 counties.
