Recently, the CDC recommended Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 6 months through 5 years and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for children ages 6 months through 4 years. This webinar will provide an overview of clinical presentation & overall impact of COVID-19 on children 6 months of age and older, and pediatric COVID-19 vaccination, including the safety and efficacy of the vaccines, vaccine recommendations, and clinical guidance for administering COVID-19 vaccine in children in this age group.

Krista D. Capehart, PharmD, MS, BCACP, FAPhA is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Director of the Wigner Institute for Advanced Pharmacy Practice, Education and Research at West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. She is also the Director of Professional and Regulatory Affairs at the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy. Dr. Capehart completed her PharmD at the University of Michigan and completed a Master of Science in Pharmacy focusing on drug policy and regulation at the University of Florida. She employs her areas of interest in her Wigner duties by assisting with direct patient care service development, improving health care access in rural areas through expanded pharmacy services, increased patient self-management awareness and knowledge, health literacy, and enhanced counseling opportunities in the community setting. Dr. Capehart utilizes her experience in health policy and regulation and clinical experiences to advocate for her patients, the profession of pharmacy, and in her role with the Wigner Institute. Recent regulatory advancements include WV pharmacist provider status, pharmacist contraceptive prescribing, and numerous practice-based enhancements. Dr. Capehart is the pharmacy lead for the WV Joint Inter-Agency Task Force for COVID-19 Vaccine and Therapeutics Distribution. Dr. Capehart is Past-President of the West Virginia Pharmacist Association and current Secretary for the Association. She has received multiple awards including the 2022 Hubert H Humphrey Award from the American Pharmacist Association, 2021 American Pharmacist Association Immunization Champion, 2021 WV Bowl of Hygeia, Civilian Award for Humanitarian Service. U.S. Department of the Army 2021, 2021 West Virginia Rural Health Association Excellence in Rural Health – Individual award and National Woman Pharmacist of the Year in 2020.
Jacob T. Kilgore, MD, MPH, FAAP, is an Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine (MU-JCESOM) Dr. Kilgore is a proud native of Kenova, West Virginia, and son of Spring Valley High School and Marshall University. After completing a pediatric infectious diseases fellowship and quality and safety chief residency at Duke University, he is excited to return to his alma mater to serve the greater Huntington/Tri-State community. His research interests focus on both inpatient and outpatient antimicrobial stewardship as well as quality improvement and patient safety. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health (MPH) and the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Quality & Safety in the Duke University Health System, a residency in Internal Medicine-Pediatrics at Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, and a fellowship Infectious Diseases at the Duke University Health System.
