West Virginians take small steps every day to protect themselves and each other.
This season, there’s one more thing we can do.
Get Your Flu Shot.
Some of the steps we take every day to protect ourselves and those we love, include washing our hands, wearing a seatbelt, and putting our children in car seats. To reduce the spread of the flu in our communities this season, the West Virginia Immunization Network encourages everyone 6 months of age and up to get their flu shot this year. This is especially important for those at higher risk for complications from the flu. It’s just one more thing you can do to keep safe. Talk to your health care provider about which influenza vaccines are best for you and your family. To learn more about the types of flu vaccines available this season click here. How to Get A Flu Vaccine
Most insurance plans cover childhood and adult vaccines. However, if you or your family have had changes to your health insurance or lost health insurance, there may be programs available to help you get the flu vaccine.
- The Vaccines for Children (VFC) program is a federal program that provides vaccines for children 18 years of age and younger who are uninsured, underinsured, Medicaid-eligible, American Indian, or Alaska Native. For help finding a local healthcare provider who participates in the VFC program, ask your child’s health care provider or contact a local health department.
- Free flu vaccine is also available for adults without insurance at most health departments and community health centers. Contact your local health department or community health center to find out more.
Where to Find A Flu Vaccine
Flu vaccines are offered in many locations including healthcare provider’s offices, community health centers, health departments, pharmacies, and college health centers, as well as offered in many workplaces and at some schools and school-based health centers. If you don’t have a healthcare provider or are looking for another location to get your flu vaccine this year, visit Vaccine Finder or use the button below. There you can enter your zip code to find flu vaccination services near you.
