On Wednesday, October 12, 2022, CDC’s Director Rochelle P. Walensky, M.D., M.P.H., signed a decision memo expanding the use of updated (bivalent) COVID-19 vaccines to children ages 5 through 11 years. This follows the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) authorization of updated COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech for children ages 5 through 11 years, and from Moderna for children and adolescents ages 6 through 17 years.
Additionally, On Wednesday, October 19, 2022, CDC’s Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky signed a decision memo and released a media statement allowing Novavax monovalent COVID-19 boosters for people ages 18 years and older targeting the original COVID-19 strain, following FDA’s granting of emergency use authorization. Novavax monovalent COVID-19 boosters are available for adults if they have completed primary series vaccination but have not previously received a COVID-19 booster—and if they cannot or will not receive an updated mRNA booster.
This webinar will provide an overview of the recommendations for the Omicron COVID-19 booster shots and clinical guidance for administering these vaccines. An overview of the findings from a statewide survey to determine West Virginians’ intentions to receive COVID-19 Omicron booster shots will be provided during this webinar as well.
