Appalachian RX Nestled amidst the hilly landscapes of Webster Springs, West Virginia, Appalachian RX stands as a testament to resilience and community-driven entrepreneurship. Co-founded by pharmacists Kenney Hamrick, PharmD, and Matthew Carpenter, PharmD, this pharmacy embodies a refreshing approach to healthcare – one rooted in genuine connections and unwavering dedication to Webster Springs and Webster County.

Kenney Hamrick, RPh, a Webster County High School alumnus with degrees from WV Wesleyan College and West Virginia University, and Matthew Carpenter, RPh, a graduate of Richwood High School and West Virginia University, share a journey that began while working together in their local Walgreens. Their careers intersected until fate intervened with the closure of the Webster Springs location, leaving them without jobs, but with a shared determination to carve a new path.

“The closure of the Walgreens location sparked a desire within us to create something truly meaningful for our community,” Kenney reflects. Undeterred by the setback, they embarked on the ambitious endeavor of establishing a pharmacy that prioritized personalized care over corporate protocols.

Appalachian RX isn’t just a pharmacy; it’s a haven where customers are neighbors, friends, and fellow community members. “At Appalachian RX, we have the freedom to connect with our customers on a personal level,” Kenney explains. This hands-on approach fosters trust and loyalty, setting the stage for genuine relationships that extend beyond the confines of conventional healthcare.

Navigating the complexities of entrepreneurship wasn’t without its challenges, but the duo found a reliable ally in The Center for Rural Health Development. “The Center helped us overcome hurdles, from financing to inventory management,” Kenney acknowledges. Their collaboration with Co-CEO/Loan Fund Manager, Rob Dearing, facilitated the development of a robust business plan, transforming their vision into a tangible reality.

Reflecting on their journey, Kenney highlights the responsive nature of The Center’s team. “Rob’s support was unwavering – he was always just a phone call away,” he recalls. This accessibility empowered Kenney and Matthew to navigate the intricate landscape of entrepreneurship with confidence and agility.

Today, Appalachian RX stands as a testament to innovation and community spirit. With a dedicated team of pharmacists and technicians, they offer a comprehensive range of services that extend beyond prescriptions. From immunizations to auto-refill prescriptions, medical supplies, and more, Appalachian RX caters to the diverse healthcare needs of its patrons, ensuring access to quality care in the heart of Webster Springs.

In the heart of Webster Springs, Appalachian RX isn’t just a pharmacy – it’s a symbol of resilience, community, and the enduring power of local entrepreneurship. As Kenney and Matthew continue to chart new territory, they remain committed to their mission of enriching the lives of those they serve, one prescription at a time.
