Active living is just one of the many ways the Healthy in the Hills team works towards this goal. Through physical activity\, garden and marketing projects and community engagement\, the team works with numerous partners to increase the health and wellness of Mingo County Residents with a specific focus on preventing and managing Type 2 diabetes. Though the pandemic has shifted things to a more virtual platform programs were reimagined\, and new programs also have been birthed for fitness. This webinar will discuss the programs that have benefited their community over the past few years and got heart rates up across Appalachia. \nAbout the Presenters: \nKristin DeBoard\, Director\, Marketing & Nutrition\nKristin began her career at Williamson Health and Wellness Center as a volunteer 5 years ago. At the time she was working at the DHHR and helping lead cooking classes as a volunteer. She was also a Farmers Market vendor selling her eggs and soap to the market for use in the CSA program. Kristin had a passion for helping people and for farming and found a way to merge those two things together by coming into WHWC as a Americorps VISTA for the healthy eating team. After a one year VISTA term she was hired on to work permanently as support staff. Her background in Healthcare Admin has been helpful as well as experience from the DHHR in working with the community and specific populations withing the community. Today Kristin has stepped into the lead role and also pursued some certificate programs in nutrition education help further her work in this field.  She also still has about 40 chickens and does value added item processing from her mini peach orchard. \nAlexis Batausa\, Director\, Active Living\nAlexis Batausa is the Director of Active Living at the Williamson Health and Wellness Center. He was raised in his hometown of Williamson\, WV. He struggled with obesity all his life and took it upon himself to be active and healthy. He picked up on the lifestyle of exercise through walking and running. Running has been his outlet when coping with his weight and his family history of diabetes. He started out as a volunteer with the Mingo County Diabetes Coalition and transitioned into a health and wellness promoter position. 3 years after that\, the MCDC transitioned with the move into the Williamson Health and Wellness Center. He was the other half of the outreach wing along with health eating and community engagement. His focus is promoting active living programs such as Hiking for Health\, Walk with Ease\, community 5ks with the Tug Valley Road Runners Club\, Gentle Yoga\, Health and Fitness Corner with MadDog\, virtual walking program such as the Lunch Walk Challenge and Healthy Feud\, working with area schools with the Fitness Frenzy\, yoga with the kids\, obstacle courses\, Fitness Trivia Wheel and will be working on getting exercise signs made for a Fitness Trail in five communities. On his spare time\, he is the president of the Tug Valley Road Runners Club and helps facilitate monthly races\, groups runs\, Tuesday Night Track\, Hatfield McCoy Marathon and Conquer the Wall 47hr and 35hr Endurance Challenge. Alexis is also the chairperson of the Mingo County Health Department Board. \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n

DESCRIPTION:This event has passed. \nClick here to view the archived webinar. \nIn this upcoming webinar\, the speakers will provide an update on safety and effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccines\, vaccine characteristics and administration\, contraindications\, and other clinical considerations. Additional information will be provided about West Virginia COVID-19 vaccine allocation and distribution. \nThis webinar is the first in a two-part webinar series. The second webinar will be conducted on April 21\, 2021 at 1pm and will feature a team from the WVU Public Interest Communication Research Lab discussing Data-driven Communication Strategies to Build COVID-19 Vaccine Confidence in West Virginia. \nWebinar objectives:\nBy the end of this webinar\, participants will be able to: \n\nDescribe the differences and similarities of each COVID-19 vaccine;\nState the indications and contraindications for each vaccine; and\nAnswer common patient questions about the vaccines’ safety and effectiveness.\n\nSpeakers:\nKrista D. Capehart\, PharmD\, MSPharm\, BCACP\, AE-C\, is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and the Director of the Wigner Institute for Advanced Pharmacy Practice\, Education and Research in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy at the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. Dr. Capehart completed her Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor\, Michigan and later completed a Master of Science in Pharmacy with a focus in drug policy and regulation at the University of Florida in Gainesville\, FL. Prior to joining WVU\, Dr. Capehart joined the clinical faculty in 2006 at the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy and was the pharmacist in charge of the PharmUC Patient Care Clinic. Dr. Capehart has focused her practice in community and ambulatory clinical pharmacy\, concentrating on improving patient compliance and quality of life through patient counseling and education. Dr. Capehart has received multiple award recognitions including the National Community Pharmacist Association West Virginia Pharmacy Leadership Award 2014-2015\, the WV Asthma Coalition Asthma Champion 2013\, WVPA Distinguished Young Pharmacist 2012\, and Teacher of the Year in 2006. Dr. Capehart also serves as the Assistant Residency Director for the WVU/Kroger community-based pharmacy residency program in Charleston\, WV. Dr. Capehart is currently assisting in COVID-19 pandemic response at the WV Joint Interagency Task Force (JIATF). \nLisa M. Costello\, MD\, MPH\, FAAP is a lifelong West Virginian who hails from Weirton\, WV. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department Pediatrics at West Virginia University (WVU) in Morgantown\, WV and a Pediatric Hospitalist at WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital. She is co-director of the Pediatrics Clerkship\, leads a healthcare literacy and patient advocacy curriculum thread for the M.D. program\, and is the advisor for the medical student group\, Student Advocates Impacting Decision on Healthcare. Dr. Costello currently serves as the president of the West Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics\, Vice-President of the West Virginia State Medical Association\, Vice-Chair of WESPAC\, and serves on the Board of Directors for the WV Children’s Health Insurance Program. She is a member of Leadership WV Class of 2021. Dr. Costello currently serves as an advisor to the WV Department of Health and Human Resources Bureau for Public Health during the COVID-19 pandemic response\, Assistant Public Information Officer for Information Products\, Joint Information Center\, West Virginia Joint Interagency Task Force For COVID-19 Vaccines\, and helped launch the #LETSGOgratitude project that teaches students about helpers in the pandemic and provides an opportunity for students to send messages of support for pandemic workers. At a national level\, she is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on State Government Affairs.
