Webinar: Haemophilus influenzae Type b: From Disease Burden to Disease Prevention

November 4 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Webinar Description:

Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) is a vaccine-preventable bacterial disease that can cause serious and potentially life-threatening infections, including meningitis, pneumonia, epiglottitis, and bloodstream infections. Although the incidence of Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) disease has declined dramatically since the introduction of vaccines, Hib remains a significant cause of severe invasive bacterial disease among unvaccinated and under-vaccinated populations. Children under 5 are at the greatest risk for Hib infections.  Healthcare and public health professionals play a critical role in maintaining high vaccination coverage, recognizing cases of invasive disease, implementing appropriate clinical management, and preventing transmission through timely public health interventions. This webinar will provide an overview of Hib disease, its clinical impact, and immunization recommendations.

Presenter:

Kevin B. Spicer, MD, PhD, MPH, Associate Professor, Chief, Division of Pediatric Infectious Disease, Marshall Health Network
