Webinar: Spring 2023 COVID-19 Vaccination Updates

On April 18, 2023, the emergency use authorizations (EUAs) of the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 bivalent mRNA vaccines were amended to simplify the vaccination schedule for most individuals. This action includes authorizing the current bivalent vaccines (original and omicron BA.4/BA.5 strains) to be used for all doses administered to individuals 6 months of age and older, including for an additional dose or doses for certain populations.

This webinar will provide an overview of the updated recommendations for the Omicron COVID-19 vaccines and clinical guidance for administering these vaccines.

Webinar Objectives:

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • State the CDC’s recommendations for bivalent COVID-19 vaccination;
  • Describe clinical considerations for administering bivalent COVID-19 vaccines; and
  • Understand and apply data-driven communication strategies for communicating with the public to boost COVID-19 vaccination confidence.

  • Robert Wines, CHP, CPM, is the Program Director, Division of Immunization Services, West Virginia Bureau for Public Health
  • Jeff Neccuzi, BS, is the Vaccine Manager/Vaccines for Children (VFC) Coordinator, Division of Immunization Services, West Virginia Bureau for Public Health
  • Krista D. Capehart, PharmD, MS, BCACP, FAPhA is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Director of the Wigner Institute for Advanced Pharmacy Practice, Education and Research at West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. She is also the Director of Professional and Regulatory Affairs at the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy.
  • Lisa M. Costello, MD, MPH, FAAP, is an assistant professor in the Department Pediatrics at West Virginia University (WVU) and a Pediatric Hospitalist at WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital.
  • Julia Daisy Fraustino, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Reed College of Media at West Virginia University, where she is founding director of the Public Interest Communication Research Laboratory (PIC Research Lab) in the Media Innovation Center.

Pharmacy – The CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.  To receive credit, participants must complete the sign-in sheet, attend each session and complete an evaluation. ACPE credits will be posted online to the CPE Monitor within six (6) weeks following the activity. This knowledge-based activity provides 1.5 contact hours (JA0006133-9999-23-050-L06-P)
