Fall 2023 COVID-19 Vaccination Updates and Other Timely Fall Vaccination Updates

On September 12, 2023, CDC recommended that everyone 6 months and older get an updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect against the potentially serious outcomes of COVID-19 illness this fall and winter. These vaccines have been updated to include a monovalent (single) component that corresponds to the Omicron variant XBB.1.5.

During this webinar, presenters will provide updates about the latest recommendations and clinical considerations for administering COVID-19 and discuss resources and communication strategies that may help improve vaccination uptake. Updates will also be provided on the provision of state-supplied COVID-19 vaccines and RSV immunization.

Webinar Objectives:

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the impact of COVID-19 and RSV in West Virginia;
  • State the CDC’s recommendations for 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccination;
  • Describe clinical considerations for administering the updated COVID-19 vaccines;
  • Identify steps for obtaining state-supplied COVID-19 and RSV immunizations; and
  • Understand and apply data-driven communication strategies for communicating with the public to boost COVID-19 vaccination confidence.

  • Jeff Neccuzi, BS, Vaccine Manager/Vaccines for Children (VFC) Coordinator, Division of Immunization Services, West Virginia Bureau for Public Health
  • Krista D. Capehart, PharmD, MS, BCACP, FAPhA, Clinical Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Director of the Wigner Institute for Advanced Pharmacy Practice, Education and Research at West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. She is also the Director of Professional and Regulatory Affairs, West Virginia Board of Pharmacy.
  • Lisa M. Costello, MD, MPH, FAAP, Assistant Professor in the Department Pediatrics at West Virginia University (WVU) and a Pediatric Hospitalist at WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital.
