During this webinar, the speakers will provide an update on the safety and effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccines authorized or approved for use in the United States, vaccine characteristics and administration, contraindications, and other clinical considerations for both the pediatric and adult populations. Additional information on how to address common patient questions about the vaccine’s safety and effectiveness will be discussed.

Krista D. Capehart, PharmD, MSPharm, BCACP, AE-C, is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and the Director of the Wigner Institute for Advanced Pharmacy Practice, Education and Research in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy at the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. Dr. Capehart completed her Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan and later completed a Master of Science in Pharmacy with a focus in drug policy and regulation at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. Prior to joining WVU, Dr. Capehart joined the clinical faculty in 2006 at the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy and was the pharmacist in charge of the PharmUC Patient Care Clinic. Dr. Capehart has focused her practice in community and ambulatory clinical pharmacy, concentrating on improving patient compliance and quality of life through patient counseling and education. Dr. Capehart has received multiple award recognitions including the National Community Pharmacist Association West Virginia Pharmacy Leadership Award 2014-2015, the WV Asthma Coalition Asthma Champion 2013, WVPA Distinguished Young Pharmacist 2012, and Teacher of the Year in 2006. Dr. Capehart also serves as the Assistant Residency Director for the WVU/Kroger community-based pharmacy residency program in Charleston, WV. Dr. Capehart is currently assisting in COVID-19 pandemic response at the WV Joint Interagency Task Force (JIATF).
Lisa M. Costello, MD, MPH, FAAP is a lifelong West Virginian who hails from Weirton, WV and currently resides in Morgantown, WV. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department Pediatrics at West Virginia University (WVU) and a Pediatric Hospitalist at WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital. She is co-director of the Pediatrics Clerkship and the advisor for the medical student group, Student Advocates Impacting Decision on Healthcare. Dr. Costello currently serves as the president of the West Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, President-elect of the West Virginia State Medical Association, and serves on the Board of Directors for the WV Children’s Health Insurance Program. She is a graduate of the Leadership WV Class of 2021. Dr. Costello serves as an advisor to the WV Department of Health and Human Resources Bureau for Public Health during the COVID-19 pandemic response and is a member of the Joint Information Center within the WV Joint Interagency Task Force For COVID-19 Vaccines.
