Leading the way for rural health
about
The Center’s mission is two-fold, to improve the health of West Virginians and strengthen West Virginia’s health care delivery system. The Center has identified two distinct approaches to improving health and health care in West Virginia. Each of the Center’s programs work to define the linkages between both health and health care and economic development. Businesses are unlikely to locate in communities where their employees and families do not have local access to health care services – thus health care is part of the economic infrastructure needed in communities to attract and retain businesses and jobs. In addition, we recognize that health is tied to the conditions in communities. Small business owners and entrepreneurs want to locate in vibrant communities where healthy choices are easy choices and the community environment supports healthy behaviors which not only lead to improved health, but also to economic prosperity for those who work, live and attend school in West Virginia’s communities.

All donations to The Center for Rural Health Development (The Center), a charitable 501(c) 3 organization, stay in West Virginia. Considered a leader in resolving rural health issues in West Virginia since 1994, the Center is unique to West Virginia in that it is the only private, non-membership organization in the state that works across the continuum of health care providers – from community health.
